On the road or in the studio, music for Kelley James is more than a passion. His reputation for delivering quick-witted lyrics over acoustic guitars, hip-hop beats and freestyle flows has developed a strong following from fans and media alike. Kelley, a California native, has released two full-length records, including his debut album “In A City That Has No Name” in 2007, and three EP’s.
Kelley released his latest EP, “The Recent Future” in June 2011, which carefully infuses pop melodies with laid-back hip-hop flows. The record combines lyrical sincerity with feel-good melodies, showcasing Kelley’s range as a songwriter. “Perfect to Me” is a rhythmic hip-hop throw-back with a powerful sway-worthy chorus. The first single on the EP, “Standing on a Rooftop”, features candid lyrics which ease into carefree reggae rhythms.
Kelley’s strong fan connection and unique style has attracted corporate partners such as Crunk Energy, Ethika, Honda, Muscle Milk, Oakley and Vans while playing events for premiere brands like 944 Magazine, Columbia, Ducati, Google, MySpace Music, NoHo, Oakley, O Organics, the Phoenix Suns, Red Bull, Ryan Sheckler Foundation, SPIN Magazine and Zumiez.
He has played shows with Sara Bareilles, Jason Derulo, LMFAO, O.A.R., Mike Posner, Joshua Radin, Shwayze, Slightly Stoopid, State Radio, T-Pain, Kate Voegele, Tyrone Wells, Matt Wertz and the Ying Yang Twins.
